Bandyopadhyay, now an adviser to CM Mamata Banerjee, has been asked to reply to a memorandum in the form of a written statement in his defence and “state if he desires to be heard in person” within 30 days, the officials said, adding that in case of no reply, the authorities would hold an inquiry against him ex parte.

The major penalty proceedings involve withholding of his pension or gratuity or both, either in full or in part, sources said. — TNS
