New Delhi, November 11

Nearly 15 months after the Congress formed a committee to address factionalism in its Rajasthan unit, there were indications of a Cabinet reshuffle on Thursday with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot meeting party president Sonia Gandhi at her residence to discuss the matter.

The reorganisation of the state unit and expansion of the Rajasthan Cabinet have been long overdue with the patience of former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot running thin.

Pilot’s supporters have been awaiting Cabinet berths for months.

The Congress committee — a truce between the rebel Pilot camp and Gehlot — was announced in August 2020 as part of the negotiated settlement between the warring factions after Pilot had temporarily raised a banner of revolt.

The Cabinet is learnt to have nine vacancies, with Pilot seeking seven berths for his supporters. The Congress is also keen to give representation to women, minorities and other dominant local communities and Independents, with whose support it came to power.
