Ahead of the farmers’ unions call to observe May 26 as “black day” to mark the six months of their agitation, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday issued notices to the governments of Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh seeking report within four weeks on action taken to control the spread of Covid at the farmers’ protest sites.

The notices have been issued in response to a complaint regarding mass gatherings by farmers and alleged violation of Covid-appropriate behaviour by them.

The complainant sought the commission’s intervention, apprehending that the Covid situation might become worse with farmers continuing to hold big events.
