The second wave of Covid-19 has taken a huge toll on the domestic aviation sector as the operator of the IGI Airport here DIAL has informed that it has decided to shut flight operations from Terminal-2 (T2) from intervening night of May 17-18 with significant reduction in the passenger traffic.

Officials in the DIAL said from May 17 midnight all flights would be handled at the T3 terminal only, which used to be operated from T2. Currently, the Delhi airport was handling around 325 flights per day, they said, while adding that before the pandemic, it used to handle around 1,500 flights daily.

As per Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) data during the last few weeks, the number of domestic air passengers per day has come down from more than 2.2 lakh to around 75,000. Similarly, international air traffic has also been affected by the second wave of the pandemic.
