Delhi horror: Lives snuffed out in minutes

Heartbreaking sights of wailing families awaiting bodies of kin meet the eye at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where the victims of Delhi violence are being rushed. Among those brought dead today was Ankit Sharma, an Intelligence Bureau staffer, who left home last evening but did not return.

His body, dumped in a gunny bag, was recovered from a drain in Chand Bagh today, said his family as GTB Hospital authorities Wednesday decided to conduct autopsies of the deceased.

The young victim’s inconsolable mother said: “He was so promising. He decided to stay with the IB even though there was an option to join the police. He was still training and would always tell me to stop worrying,”

At GTB Hospital, several families queued up to claim bodies of loved ones who fell to the violence perpetrated by riotous mobs. Mohammad Akram was among the those whose son suatained a bullet injury but survived. “My son was standing out in the apartment terrace when someone from the gun wielding mob shot at him. It was with much difficulty that we reached the hospital. The rioters were stopping people from getting medical help,” said Akram.

The family of Rahul Solanki, killed yesterday in northeast Delhi district within minutes of stepping out of the home to fetch some milk, is also among those in waiting for the bodies.

Gurugram residents stranded in offices

The Delhi violence left many people working in Gurugram stranded in offices for two days. Unable to get back home, many of them took to social media to highlight their woes. Both families and companies asked them to stay put till the situation improves. Gurugram residents offered free home stay to those who couldn’t return home. TNS
