Former Kolkata Mayor and former TMC heavyweight Sovan Chatterjee who had switched over to the BJP in 2019 on Sunday quit the BJP after being denied his traditional seat of Behala East.

The BJP today fielded celebrity Payel Sarkar from Behala East.

Soven wrote a letter to BJP Bengal chief Dilip Ghosh saying he was resigning from the party so was his associate Baisakhi Banerjee.

Chatterjee was BJP observer for Kolkata zone and had sought tickets for himself and Baisakhi.
