Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu has requested chiefs of the Parliamentary Committees of the Upper House to ensure that the proceedings of the panels are not reported in media, as it is not permissible to communicate “directly or indirectly” before the report is presented on the floor of the House, sources said.

The sources said, in a letter to all the panel chiefs, it is also communicated that such action (media reporting) on proceedings of committees also amounts to breach of privilege of the House.

Quoting the letter, the sources said, “I urge upon you to impress upon the members of Parliament belonging to your committee… to strictly adhere to the existing provisions relating to confidentiality and refrain from premature divulgence of any information to the media.” — TNS
