New Delhi, March 12

Suvendu Adhikari, BJP leader, filed his nomination on Friday for the Nandigram seat, where the polling is slated to take place on April.

Young CPM candidate Meenakshi Mukherjee, who is state president of party’s frontal organisation Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), also filed her nomination for the Nandigram seat on Friday.

After leading a-km-long roadshow, accompanied by Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Smriti Irani, Adhikari filed his papers at the sub-divisional office in Haldia.

Adhikari won the seat as a TMC candidate in 2016 by bagging over 67 per cent of the votes, defeating his nearest rival of the CPI by a margin of 81,230 votes.

“I am a bhoomiputra (son of the soil) and I will win,” Adhikari said after filing his papers.
