Over 56.62 LMT of paddy has been procured in Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2021-22 up to October 17 in Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution on Monday said.

The KMS 2021-22 at MSP has benefitted 3,71,919 farmers with an MSP value of Rs 11,099.25 crore. Procurement ongoing in Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, it added.

Acceding to farmers’ demand, the Centre began procurement from October 3.

It had earlier decided to delay the procurement of paddy under MSP to October 11 in Punjab and Haryana in “overall interest of farmers and consumers as well as to accept paddy stock as per FAQ”, leading to widespread protests in the two states.
