New Delhi, October 27

Expanding the ambit of protests against the three newly enacted farm laws, major farmer organisations today decided to hold a nationwide “chakka jam” protest between 12 noon and 4 pm on November 5, said union leader Balbir Singh Rajewal.

The organisations, which included the All-India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, also gave a call for “Dilli Chalo” on November 26 and 27. Rajewal said at a meeting held at Gurdwara Rakabganj today, a five-member coordination committee had been formed to spearhead the fight against the three Acts.

Union leaders condemned the Central Government’s decision to stop operation of goods trains in Punjab till the protesting farmers give way to passenger trains as well. This amounted to blackmailing and was unbecoming of a democratic government, they said.

Rajewal said the unions would not relent till the three Acts and the Electricity Bill, 2020, were withdrawn. “Farmers across the country will continue protests outside the offices of the government, BJP leaders and corporate houses,” he said.
