Gandhi loyalist Satish Sharma no more

New Delhi, February 17
Former Lok Sabha MP from Amethi and Rae Bareli, and a long-time Gandhi family loyalist Capt Satish Sharma passed away in Goa after a brief illness.
Sharma, who owed his rise in politics, to proximity to late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, was a Lok Sabha MP thrice and a Rajya Sabha MP thrice.
Sharma was dropped from Rajya Sabha only in 2016 after his term ended.
He represented Amethi after Rajiv Gandhi’s death in 1991.
After 1998, Sharma was shifted to Rae Bareli, where he remained MP till 2004 before vacating the seat for Sonia Gandhi.
He quit as an airline pilot and joined politics in 1983 at Rajiv Gandhi’s behest.
He was 73. His last rites will be performed in Delhi on Friday.
