Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has squarely blamed the Congress for the disturbances in the state during the demonstrations against the Citizenship Act and said the party instigated violence because the people in the state did not support its anti-CAA stand.

  • Morbi: A Gujarat Lok Sabha MP on Saturday handed out citizenship certificates to three members of a Hindu family who came to India from Pakistan seeking refuge over a decade ago. Rajkot Lok Sabha MP Mohan Kundariya handed out the certificates to Harsinh Sodha, Sarupsinh Sodha and Parbatsinh Sodha, who came to India in 2007, at a function in Morbi. PTI

“See who are the people arrested in connection with the violence. They are Congressmen,” Rupani told mediapersons here today referring to the detention of Shehzad Khan Pathan, a Congress member of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation who was held by the police yesterday for allegedly instigating violence.

Another person Mufis Ahmed, who is claimed to be an office-bearer of the state Congress minority cell, was also arrested today in connection with Thursday’s violence in Shah-e-Alam locality in the city. With this the total number of persons arrested in connection with the Ahmedabad violence went up to 64, including six women, while 90 people were arrested in Vadodara where trouble erupted in front of a mosque yesterday when they were coming out after the Friday prayers.

“I have no iota of doubt that the Congress is behind the disturbances in Gujarat,” Rupani said.
