Petitioner Youth Bar Association of India urged the top court to direct the Centre, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal to take immediate steps to remove the bodies found floating in the Ganga.

Accusing the public authorities of failing to make concentric efforts in educating the masses and checking the immersion of half-burnt or unburnt bodies into the Ganga, the petitioner said floating of corpses in the river would cause environmental hazards in violation of the guidelines of National Mission for Clean Ganga. — TNS
