The Haryana Assembly today passed the Bill for providing 75 per cent job reservation to locals in the private sector. The Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Bill 2020 was passed amid protests by a section of legislators, including Ram Kumar Gautam, the JJP legislator from Narnaund.

Criticising the Bill, Gautam said that it would set a bad precedent. If other states followed suit, Haryanavis would be barred from employment in other states. Congress’ BB Batra said the Bill violated the right to equality in matters of employment.

Pointing out that Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra too had enacted similar laws, Chief Minister ML Khattar maintained that the Bill would go a long way in providing employment to the local youth. INSIDE
