IFS officer dies after jumping from fifth floor of residential building

V Bhaskara Ramana Murthy, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) for Coastal Zone Management in the state of Andhra Pradesh reportedly committed suicide by jumping from his residential building and was found dead in the residential complex at Nagole building on the outskirts of Hyderabad.  

He is said to have jumped from the fifth floor of the multi-storied residential apartment early on Thursday, police said 

Murthy was a senior bureaucrat working with the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department and lived with his wife and daughters. He was confined to home for some time on account of COVID-19.

The deceased was 59-year-old Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer working as the PCCF and was posted at Guntur.  

The family said Murthy had been last seen working on some papers at home yesterday. The LB Nagar police said that the family did not suspect any foul play.  

Sources said the officer was on leave from work and was staying at his residence in Telangana with his family for the past few months. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.  

“So far, the reason for him to resort to such an extreme step is not known,” a senior police official said adding, “He committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of the building… So far, the reason for him to resort to such an extreme step is not known.” 

Meanwhile, a newborn baby was abandoned on the road near a village in Telangana’s Nagarkurnool district yesterday.

The baby was discovered after people heard crying sounds from a carry bag near Kongareddypalli village in Vangoor mandal. Local police shifted the infant to a hospital, where she was given first aid. Later, district Child Welfare officials shifted the infant to a state-run ‘Shishu Vihar’.
