For the first time, all eight beaches recommended by any country have been given the Eco-label, Blue Flag certification.

Announcing it a while back, the Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar called it a ‘proud moment for India’.
“Proud moment for India; all 8 beaches recommended by government gets coveted International Blue Flag Certification”, he said.
These are Shivrajpur (Dwarka-Gujarat), Ghoghla (Diu), Kasarkod and Padubidri (Karnataka), Kappad (Kerala), Rushikonda (AP), Golden Beach (Odisha) and Radhanagar (A&N Islands).

“An outstanding feat, as no BLUE FLAG nation has ever been awarded for 8 beaches in a single attempt”, he said.
Last month, eight beaches of India were recommended for the prestigious international eco-label, Blue Flag, one of the world’s most recognised voluntary eco-labels awarded to beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators.
Blue Flag beaches are considered the cleanest beaches in the world and winners have to meet a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria and maintain them.
