India will hit back if someone plans to harm it: Reddy

Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home G Kishan Reddy on Friday said if someone plans to harm India, the country is capable of taking appropriate action to thwart such attempts in a “decisive” way.

Speaking at the 36th raising day function of the “black cat” commandos of the National Security Guard (NSG) at its garrison in Gurugram, the minister said: “India believes in the policy of in the policy of ‘vasudhaiva kutumbakam (the world is one family).”

Noting that the adherence to “‘dharma” does not mean India “will sit idle during such challenges”, Reddy said the specialised counter-terrorist force should keep itself “10 steps ahead” in training and technology as terrorists are using new techniques with evolving times.

“The NSG should better its capabilities for enhancing mobility, surveillance, fire power and counter-UAV capabilities,” he said, adding that the government was determined to strengthen the commando force in all aspects and also to ensure that it “reaches the scene of action by fastest possible means”.

Meanwhile, Director-General (DG) of the NSG SS Deswal said, “The NSG’s close protection force has trained 21 personnel of Sri Lanka’s PM security division. The latter wrote to his Indian counterpart and praised the training.”

The force has a special component called the CPF (close protection force) that provides security to high-risk VIPs under the top category Z cover. At present, it has about 13 protectees under its charge, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.
