This year, Indian Air Force (IAF) Day parade and flypast will be conducted in Chandigarh. The flypast on October 8 is expected over the scenic Sukhna Lake. The parade and flypast is being conducted at the Hindon air base since 2006. Earlier, it used to be conducted at the Palam base.

The IAF has an important base for C-17 planes and Chinook heavy lift copters in Chandigarh. A squadron of the Rafale fighter jets are based in Ambala, some 40 km south of Chandigarh.
