Srinagar: A militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, the police said. Based on specific inputs about the presence of militants in Chitragam village, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there, a police official said. Later there was an exchange of fire, and one militant was killed, the official said. PTI

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
