Five Left parties’ proposed December 19 joint protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act is set to get a boost with as many as 10 Central Trade Unions and 60 organisations contemplating to converge their scheduled agitation on the same day with it in the national Capital.

CITU national Secretary S Dev Roy said on Sunday the trade unions had also given an independent call for national protest against the Bill. Now it would be hyphenated with the Left parties’ protest in Delhi near Parliament.

The five Left parties namely, the CPM, CPI, CPI(ML) Liberation, AIFB and RSP have given a call for national protest. Their central leaders will join the protest in Delhi.

They have chosen December 19 as the date for protest as a symbolic value. It marks the day of execution through hanging to death of three noted freedom fighters namely, Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan and Roshan Singh in 1927 by British government. —TNS
