Hyderabad, October 12
A rashly-driven car in the Telangana Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy convoy hit a 55-year-old man, killing him on the spot. The incident took place near Kallakal village in Manhoharabad Mandal of Medak district on Monday.
The victim was identified as Narasimha Reddy. He was trying to cross the road when he was hit by a fast-moving vehicle in the Speaker’s convoy. The Speaker was going from Hyderabad to his constituency of Banswada in Kamareddy for an official programme.
Medak Superintendent of Police Chandana Deepthi said the vehicle had been seized and the driver detained. However, he added that the car that caused the accident does not belong to the Speaker convoy but seems like it was travelling along with the convoy. The matter is being investigated.
The victim was a resident of Kallakal village. He was working in a private factory in the industrial area. The Speaker got out of his car following the accident and rushed the victim to a local hospital. But the victim died on the way.
Speaker Pocharam Srinivas issued a statement calling the incident unfortunate. He further asked the concerned officials to extend all possible help to the family of the victim.
Pocharam Srinivas is a six-time legislator and former Agriculture Minister and was unanimously elected Speaker after Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) won the state elections for the second term in 2018.
