“During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state is peaceful but tense in some places with sporadic incidents of firing and gathering of crowds in different places…As regards the viral videos of two women paraded naked by unknown armed miscreants on May 4, 2023, a case of abduction, gang rape and murder was registered in Nongpok Sekmai police station, Thoubal district, against unknown armed miscreants and an investigation has been started. The state police is making all out efforts to arrest the culprits at the earliest,” K Meghachandra Singh, SP Manipur police, said in a statement.

Rahul Gandhi in a tweet said the PM’s silence and inaction has led Manipur into anarchy.

“INDIA will not stay silent while the idea of India is being attacked in Manipur. We stand with the people of Manipur. Peace is the only way forward,” he tweeted.

Priyanka Vadra said the pictures of sexual violence against women emerging from Manipur are heart-wrenching.

“We must all condemn the violence in one voice while furthering efforts for peace in Manipur. Why is the Central government, Prime Minister turning a blind eye to these violent episodes? Do such pictures not disturb them?” Priyanka asked.

AAP in a statement condemned the “horrifying and continued ordeal of the helpless people of Manipur”.

AAP said inaction of the state and Central government is painful for all the citizens of the country and urged the PM to intervene.
