The joint modernisation of Trincomalee tank farms cleared by the Sri Lankan Cabinet was an important area of India’s cooperation with Sri Lanka and would augment bilateral energy security, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told the media on Thursday.

“We are in consultation with the Government of Sri Lanka for the modernisation of the Trincomalee tank farms. This will allow for the storage of fuel,” he said.

On extending credit to Colombo, Bagchi said SL Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa had visited Delhi last month and briefed the Indian side on the economic situation in his country and his government’s approach in addressing these challenges. — TNS
