Chandigarh, January 5
A MiG-21 Bison fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed near Suratgarh in Rajasthan late today evening while on a routine training mission. The pilot managed to bail out safely.

“During a training sortie in the western sector, a MiG-21 Bison aircraft experienced a major technical malfunction this evening. The pilot ejected safely at about 2015 hrs. There is no loss of life. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident,” a tweet by the IAF said.
The IAF is on the verge of phasing out the last few of its MiG-21 Bison squadrons that remain in service.
