Chandigarh: Athletics legend Milkha Singh’s wife Nirmal Kaur (85) died on Sunday due to complications caused by Covid-19. A former captain of the Indian women’s volleyball team, Nirmal is survived by her husband, one son — golfer Jeev Milkha Singh — and three daughters. Nirmal had also served as Director of Sports for Women in the Punjab Government. “We are deeply saddened to inform you that Mrs Nirmal Milkha Singh passed away after a valiant battle against Covid at 4 pm today,” a statement from the family said. Nirmal was admitted to a hospital in Mohali on May 26. — TNS
