MoD removes benchmark for qualifying for pension

New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has modified the provisions for grant of ordinary family pension. It will benefit kin of those who died in service. The existing requirement is continuous qualifying service of seven years. This requirement of continuous qualifying service is done away and shall apply with retrospective effect from October 1, 2019, the Ministry of Defence said. Ordinary family pension at enhanced rate is granted for a period of seven years from the date of death of the person and is calculated at 50 per cent of last emoluments drawn. tns
