Modi urges farmers to adopt organic farming

New Delhi, December 16

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today warned against the dangers of pesticides and imported fertilisers, urging small farmers to turn to organic or natural farming.

“Small farmers, who own less than 2 hectares of land, spend a lot on chemical fertilisers. If they turn to natural farming, their financial condition will improve,” the Prime Minister said while virtually addressing a national conclave on natural farming here.

Union Ministers Amit Shah and Narendra Singh Tomer, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, and Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh were present on the occasion.

While acknowledging the role of chemicals and fertilisers in the Green Revolution, PM Modi emphasised the need to look for alternatives.

He warned against the dangers of pesticides and fertilisers, which increased the input cost and impacted the health of human beings. “It is the right time to take big steps before problems related to agriculture become worse,” he said. — TNS
