The National Investigation Agency said on Wednesday it has taken over the investigation in the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) case relating to the seizure of nearly 3,000 kgs of heroin at Mundra Port in Gujarat on September 13.
In an official release the anti-terror agency said: “In pursuance to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) order dated October 6, 2021, NIA has taken up the investigation of DRI case dated September 13, 2021, as NIA under section 120 B IPC, section 8 ©, 23 of NDPS Act and section 17, 18 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 against accused Machavaram Sudhakaran, Durga PV Govindaraju, Rajkumar P and others”.
It said the case relates to “seizure of 2988.21 kg of Narcotics substance (Heroin) seized at Mundra Port, Gujarat disguised as a consignment of ‘Semi-processed Talc stones’ originating from Afghanistan which had arrived from Bandar Abbas Port, Iran”.
Pursuant to the registration of the case, requisite actions as per law for the expeditious investigation of the case have been initiated, it informed.
