No info on non-implementation of new MV Act

The government on Monday said it has no information about any state not implementing the amended Motor Vehicles Act However, some states have reduced penalties in accordance with the powers granted to them under the new Act The new Act with stricter provisions has come into force in the country from September 1, 2019. “The Ministry has not received any information from any state that have not implemented the provisions of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019,” Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari told Rajya Sabha in a written reply.

Major reforms in 5 yrs to boost economy

The government has brought in major reforms to boost investment climate in the country for becoming a USD 5-trillion economy, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in Parliament on Monday. “During the last five years, the government has implemented major reforms to build the investment climate in the country for becoming a US 5 trillion-dollar economy. Introduction of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) in 2016 is a significant step towards cleaning and strengthening the financial system of the country,” she said in the Lok Sabha.

MPs ride bicycles, wear masks, drive e-cars

Several MPs on Monday made a statement against pollution in the national capital by riding bicycles, sporting masks and even choosing electric vehicles over fuel guzzlers as they arrived for the winter session. BJP MP Mansukh Mandaviya reached Parliament riding a bicycle and so did his party colleague Manoj Tiwari. Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar arrived at Parliament in an electric car.

4 new parliamentarians take oath in LS

Four newly-elected Members of Parliament took oath in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Prince Raj from the Samastipur parliamentary constituency in Bihar, Himadri Singh from Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh, Shriniwas Dadasaheb Patil from Satara in Maharashtra and D.M. Kathir Anand from Vellore in Tamil Nadu are the four newly-elected MPs who took oath when the Lower House met for the day. The MPs signed the roll of members and took their seats in the House to attend the winter session, which will end on December 13 and see a total of 20 sittings.
