The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that there is no move as yet to deport a Wall Street Journal journalist Eric Bellman. Speculation had arisen after Prasar Bharati said it had asked the MEA to look into the request for “immediate deportation” of the foreign journalist for misreporting on the Delhi riots, especially on the murder of an Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma.

The MEA stepped in to point out that a routine complaint was registered against Bellman by a private individual on the government’s online grievance redressal platform. “Referring the complaint to the related office is a routine matter as per standard procedure,” said the spokesperson. — TNS
