No rollback of Agnipath scheme, India needs young force: NSA Ajit Doval

New Delhi, June 21

Asserting that the Agnipath scheme will not be rolled back, National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval today said with paradigm shift in security scenario, India needed a change in the armed forces so as to have “a young military of a young nation”.

Doval said, “The (idea of) war is undergoing a great change. There will be contactless wars with the invisible enemy. Technology is taking over at a rapid pace. We have to prepare for tomorrow.”

The statement came at a time when violent protests against the Agnipath scheme are taking place across the country. Doval said there were “conflict entrepreneurs” with vested interest behind the protests. “Protest in a democracy is legitimate, but violence in any form cannot be justified and the law will catch up with them who indulged in vandalism and arson,” he said.

Doval identified “conflict entrepreneurs” in this case as coaching centres and those who were up for discrediting the government at any cost. He said the scheme was part of PM Narendra Modi’s vision for a secure and strong India. On India’s relations with Pakistan, the National Security Adviser said, “We want to have normal relations with them, but our tolerance threshold against terrorism is very low.”

Meanwhile, the Chiefs of the three armed forces met PM Narendra Modi and briefed him about their plan to implement the Agnipath scheme and related issues against the backdrop of the ongoing protests against the new policy. — TNS
