The government has constituted a committee to revisit the criteria for determining the economically weaker sections to provide them reservation.
The committee members are former Finance Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Member Secretary of Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) VK Malhotra and Principal Economic Adviser to the government Sanjay Sanyal.
Last week, the government informed the Supreme Court that it had taken a considered decision to revisit the criteria.
In an official memorandum issued today, the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry said the government constituted the committee in accordance with the commitment made to the SC.
It panel also examine various approaches followed so far in the country for identifying economically weaker sections, and recommend criteria that may be adopted for identifying EWS category in future. — PTI
