New Delhi, June 29

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Wednesday evening chair a crucial meeting of the council of ministers.

The PMO sources said the council of ministers meeting is scheduled for 5 pm.

Although the council agenda has been circulated as “Covid management and review of projects related to the ministries of road transport and highways and aviation,” sources say the meeting could have larger dimensions amid a long pending and anticipated Cabinet reshuffle.

The PM has completed the exercise of reviewing the performance of every ministers and flagged gaps to them.

The comprehensive exercise has occurred over the past month in the presence of BJP president JP Nadda, National general Secretary organisation BJP BL Santosh.

Also, the recent days have been marked by a host of leaders meeting Nadda, including Jyotiraditya Scindia, former Assam chief minister Sarbanand Sonowal and several others.

The PM may also like to accommodate more leaders from UP into the Union Cabinet reenergising his council ahead of election year.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also held meetings with Nadda and the PM over recent days.Several ministers have too many portfolios at hand.

A reshuffle would not be surprising, a source said.

The Tribune had earlier this week reported that a council of ministers meeting would take place on June 30.
