Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched e-RUPI, a person and purpose specific digital payment solution, for cashless and contactless payment in lieu of services ranging from vaccination, arrangement of food for the poor, school textbooks, uniforms and other services.

The PMsaid the e-RUPI voucher would play a huge role in making direct benefit transfer (DBT) more effective in digital transactions in the country and give a new dimension to digital governance.

“This will help everyone in targeted, transparent and leakage-free delivery. e-RUPI is a symbol of how India is progressing by connecting people’s lives with technology. There was a time when technology was considered a reserve of the rich, but this government has shown how digital technology can be used to improve the lives of poor,” said the PM. — TNS
