Prachanda raises Indo-Nepal treaty revision

New Delhi, July 17

The visiting leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN-Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said there were issues left by history that needed to be addressed to fully realise the potential of Nepal-India relations and bilateral cooperation. These include matters related to the 1950 India-Nepal treaty, boundary issues and the Eminent Persons’ Group report, said Prachanda who wrapped up his three-day visit that included meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, NSA Ajit Doval and BJP president JP Nadda. Prachanda, however, was unable to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This is for the first time that the BJP has given an invitation to a Communist Party leader from Nepal. Last month, Nadda had met the Politburo member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Van Nen.

The CPN (Maoist Centre) had said its chairman’s visit was taking place at the invitation of Nadda with an aim to build party-to-party relations. Prachanda said the commonality between Nepal and India has created synergy for robust interdependence.
