After a video of a teenaged girl being beaten by her family members in Gujarat went viral on social media, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, here on Saturday, said it was not an isolated incident.

“The violence in this video is not isolated. It’s an expression of what many Indian women have always faced. The violence comes in many forms and is sustained by a culture that glorifies symbols of womanhood, while simultaneously treating women with total contempt and disrespect,” he tweeted attaching a video where a group of men, reportedly her family members, beating the teenager.

The video shows men beating the teenager with sticks and also slapping and kicking her. It is not yet clear why she was being beaten. IANS
