Home Minister Amit Shah, tasked with the responsibility of the newly created Ministry of Cooperation, met leaders from the sector on Saturday and assured them to further strengthen and empower the cooperative movement in India.
The meeting followed the recent swearing-in of the 77 member council of ministers and reallocation of responsibilities. The Opposition parties are fearing the Cooperation Ministry could impact the Centre-state relations in the sector and undermine federal structures. After the meeting, Shah tweeted about the engagement with industry leaders.
He met chairman of the National Cooperative Union of India Dileep Sanghani, chairman and managing director of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited BS Nakai and US Awasthi, respectively, and the chairman of National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing
