Alleging that VHP men were appointed as prosecutors to try cases related to the 2002 Gujarat riots, senior counsel Kapil Sibal, representing slain Congress MP Ehsan Jafri’s widow Zakia Jafri, told the Supreme Court that there was a “stark collaboration” between politicians, bureaucrats, investigators and others.

This is the second time that Sibal has alleged that the SIT probe was a collaborative exercise. Earlier, questioning the SIT clean chit to then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi in the 2002 riots, Sibal had on November 11 said that those who “collaborated” – including SIT chief RK Raghavan — got “rehabilitated”.

On Tuesday, he told a Bench led by Justice AM Khanwilkar that the SIT didn’t investigate these aspects. — TNS
