Through another order, the government indicated there would be a change of guard in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K)’s bureaucratic leadership, as Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam would come back to the Centre after seeing through the process of the state losing its special status and turning into a Union Territory (UT). The tenure of both officers was set to end on June 30.

IAS officer Arun Kumar Mehta will take over as the Chief Secretary of the UT, replacing Subrahmanyam, who, on his return from J&K, will take charge as the Officer on Special Duty in the Commerce Ministry. On June 30, the latter will take charge as the Commerce Secretary. —TNS
