Over 50 licensed traders approached the Delhi High Court on Saturday seeking leave to sell green firecrackers ahead of Diwali after the Supreme Court said it had not imposed a blanket ban on the sale of fireworks.

Opposing the petition that challenges the complete ban on the storage and sale of all kinds of firecrackers, the Delhi Government argued that firecrackers could not be sold and even the stocks could not be moved out of the city in view of the NGT decision, which has prohibited the use of even green crackers.

Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva listed the case for hearing on November 1. Delhi’s additional standing counsel Naushad Ahmed Khan asserted considering the ban on firecrackers was imposed on September 28, the petitioners ought to have taken steps earlier. — PTI
