Rajya Sabha MP and BJP state president Manik Saha is all set to take over as the new Chief Minister of Tripura.

The decision was taken at a legislature party meeting following the resignation of CM Biplab Kumar Deb.

Just ahead of elections next year, Biplab Deb on Saturday submitted his resignation to the Governor. The developments came a day after he met Home Minister Amit Shah.

“We need to keep the BJP in power for long in Tripura,” Biplab Deb said after the resignation.

“The party (BJP) is above all.

“I have worked for the party under the leadership and direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I have tried to do justice to the people of Tripura as the head of the party’s state unit and as CM. I have tried to ensure peace, development and steer the state out of the Covid crisis,” he said.

Sources said the central leadership affected the changes in mind the “factionalism” in the state unit.

“The change is a proof of the fact that the BJP house was in a mess in Tripura,” observers said.

Though Saha does not have much time to make amends, sources point to the party’s success in Uttrakhand following a similar situation there.
