The decisions in these regards were taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

For the white goods—Refrigerators and LEDs—the central government has earmarked Rs 6,238 crore to be spent in next five years.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that the approval of the scheme for the items identified is aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing to make India “atmanirvar”.

Giving details of the PLI scheme “National Programme on High Efficiency Solar PV Modules”’ with an outlay of Rs 4,500 crore, Goyal said, this decision will add 10,000 MW capacity of integrated solar PV manufacturing plants and bring direct investment of around Rs 17,200 crore in solar PV manufacturing.

The PLI scheme is likely to create direct employment of around 30,000 and indirect employment of 1.2 lakh, he said.
