As Omicron sustained its rapid spread reaching over 60 countries as of Saturday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) urged all nations to act now to beat the virus.

“This virus is formidable… Don’t wait to act. Double down…reduce the spread of all variants, including Delta and Omicron, increase Covid-19 vaccination in at-risk groups. Now, not weeks from now,” Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO’s technical head on Covid-19 and health emergency programmes, said. In India, Omicron currently constitutes less than 0.04 per cent of cases, all variants included. All detected cases have shown mild symptoms.
