Jaipur, February 14
Hailing the Supreme Court order to political parties to make public the criminal record of tainted candidates, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora said today that the commission would ensure the implementation of the order in toto.
“The Election Commission will ensure implementation of the SC order that information on tainted candidates fielded by the parties be made public and uploaded on the website within 48 hours,” he said.
On EC’s ambitious Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (Sveep) programme, Arora said Sveep centres were being opened across the country and one such centre would be opened in Jaipur for which a minimum one acre of land would have to be reserved. He said the EC would approach the Centre on budgetary provisions for the same.
The CEC released a book titled “Lok Sabha General Election-2019: Statistic Book”. He was accompanied by Senior Deputy Election Commission Dr Sandeep Saxena, state EC Officer Anand Kumar and Sveep adviser Dr Rekha Gupta. — OC
