Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the Ram Temple’s sanctum sanctorum in Ayodhya.

The temple will be opened to the public by December 2023.

Yogi performed ‘aarti’ at the complex in the presence of a gathering of seers and saints and the members of Shri Ram Janambhoomi Teerth Kshetra (SRJBTK), which is supervising the construction.

Addressing the gathering, Adityanath said it is a “big and historic day” for the country.

“The laying of the foundation stone will give fillip to construction of the temple,” Yogi said, adding that it would be a “national temple”.

“It is a national symbol. It is a symbol of national unity. It will help unify the country in a common thread,” Yogi said.

He said it would realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat’.

He recalled the struggles and sacrifices, including of saints and seers, over 500 years for the temple’s construction.

The construction of the temple and related works commenced with Narendra Modi performing ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ at the site on August 5, 2020.

Meanwhile, the SRJTBK said the construction of the temple is in full swing.
