Imran Khan 'death in custody rumours': What Pakistan's Adiala jail said as sisters seek visiting rights

After tensions escalated outside Pakistan’s Adiala Jail following rumours of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s death in custody, prison authorities clarified that the PTI chief is in good health and remains inside the facility.

The administration dismissed speculation about his condition as “baseless”, stating that Khan is receiving adequate medical care, Geo News reported.

“There is no truth to reports suggesting his transfer from Adiala Jail. He is completely healthy,” the officials said.

Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated for more than two years in connection with multiple corruption and terrorism cases, is allegedly being kept in solitary confinement under harsh conditions, according to his sisters and sons.

His sisters — Noreen Khan (Niazi), Aleema Khan, and Uzma Khan — claim they have been denied meetings with him despite court orders allowing twice-weekly visitation, issued by the Islamabad High Court.'

Tensions flared on Wednesday when PTI workers and Imran’s sisters staged a sit-in protest near the Adiala Jail check-post. The demonstration quickly drew thousands of supporters, some of whom reportedly attempted to storm the jail. The protest was later called off after jail officials and police assured Aleema Khan that a meeting with Imran Khan would be arranged, ARY News reported.

The sisters are expected to meet him later today and again next Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif asserted that Imran was currently receiving better treatment in prison compared to his previous detentions.
