100 attend capacity building workshop for research scholars at Punjabi University

A one-day capacity building workshop for research scholars was organised by the office of the Dean, Research, Punjabi University. At least 100 research scholars participated in the workshop.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Jagdeep Singh presided over the inaugural session of the workshop and emphasised on the need for conducting high-quality research.

He said instead of merely increasing the quantity of research, the focus should be on improving its quality, as this was the need of the hour.

He stressed that from the selection of the research area to the completion of the research work, special attention must be paid to maintaining standards, keeping in mind that the reputation of the institution was also attached to it.

He said Punjabi University had its own high standard and there should never be any compromise on it. He said true research was one that makes a valuable contribution to the progress of society.

While addressing foreign students, he urged them to definitely share their ongoing research with the governments of their respective countries so that these studies could assist in policy-making across various sectors.

Speaking as the special guest, Prof Jaswinder Singh Brar, Dean, Academic Affairs, said, “Along with improving the quality of research, there is a special need to integrate theoretical and practical aspects with each other.” He emphasised on the importance of coordination among research in different fields so that collective efforts could make a meaningful contribution to societal welfare.

in her welcome address, Prof Ritu Lehal, Dean (Research), informed that this workshop was designed keeping in view research scholars from three teaching faculties — the faculty of business studies, the faculty of social sciences, and the faculty of education and library sciences. She said similar workshops would be organised for remaining teaching faculties in the coming days. While proposing the vote of thanks, Prof Minni Singh, Associate Dean (Research), provided information about various ongoing activities of the Dean Research office and its future plans.

Different sessions of the workshop were addressed by experts, including Dr Amanpreet Singh, Prof Rajesh Gill, and Shivani Rajat Sharma, Chief Manager, Punjabi University branch of State Bank of India.
