3 arrested with 15.6 kg opium, drug money

The Patiala police today claimed to have made a breakthrough in the drug route from Northeastern states to Punjab with arrest of three persons. In a joint operation, Patiala Police and Counter Intelligence arrested three members of an international drug syndicate and recovered 15.680 kg of opium and Rs 2.30 lakh drug money.

Addressing the media, Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said that the Ghagga police, under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Gurbans Singh Bains, stopped a car at a police naka in Sangrur. The car occupants Amarjit Singh, Harmanjit Singh and Harpreet Singh of Sunam in Sangrur were asked to step out. “The team recovered 15.680 kg of opium and Rs 2.30 lakh from the accused,” he said.

The SSP said initial probe revealed that the accused had brought the contraband from Imphal and Assam. Further probe is on, he added.
