Action sought against cops for ‘killing’ Punjab farmers

Farmers belonging to Krantikari Kisan Union submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner to be forwarded to the Chief Minister, demanding legal action against those who allegedly attacked and murdered farmers protesting at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders.

Members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) also submitted a memorandum in this regard.

Addressing the media, Krantikari Kisan Union District President Harnek Singh said the farmers were going to Delhi to get their already conceded demands implemented, but the Haryana Government stopped them from going there by installing barricades and nails on the roads of the two borders.

He said they also fired tear gas and bullets on the farmers, causing heavy damage to their tractor-trailers. More than two hundred farmers were injured and young farmer Shubhkaran Singh died, he added. He demanded strict action be taken against all those who ‘murdered’ the farmer.

State secretary Ranjit Singh Chanarthal, state committee member Jasbir Singh, Harinder Singh Chanarthal, Paramveer Singh, Jasbir Singh and Sukhdev Singh, were present also there.

SGPC member Karnail Singh Panjoli, along with other members and workers, also submitted a memorandum to the DC, demanding the registration of an FIR against those police officials who injured and ‘killed’ farmers.

He said it was unfortunate that the Haryana Police had abducted the farmers from the state territory and committed atrocities on them, with the state government being a mute spectator.
