Khelo India Women’s Track Cycling League (Zone-I) competitions today began at the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Cycling Velodrome, Patiala, today. It is a joint venture of the Cycling Federation of India, union Sports Ministry and Sports Authority of India.

The event is being managed by league coordinator Jagdeep Singh Kahlon and Neeraj Tanwar, zonal coordinator, Cycling Federation of India.

While addressing the players, former athlete Sunita Rani said there was no shortage of talent in the country. There was a need to identify the skills of the players and show them the right direction, she said. Sunita added that girls today were no less than boys in any field.

International champion Charanjit Singh Bajwa said a player not only gets physically fit through sports, but also gets a different identity in the society.

Under the series of competitions held today, Leakes Angmo (Leh) won the gold medal in the 500m-individual time trial (senior category). Harpreet Kaur (Punjab) won the silver medal while Mukul (Haryana) bagged the bronze.

In the 500m-individual time trial (junior category), Himanshi Singh won the gold medal, Vimla (NIS, Patiala) bagged the silver medal and Ruchika Singh won the bronze medal.

In the 500m-individual time trial (sub-junior category), Harshita Jakhar (NIS, Patiala) bagged gold, Sarita Kumari (NIS Patiala) won the silver medal while Suhani Kumari (NIS, Patiala) won the bronze medal.
